Fruits are considered to be healthy and everyone knows it.

They’re loaded with vitamins and fibers.. and a whole lot of fructose and calories.

Fruits are a natural sugar source, but they’re still sugar and we have to be careful with how much we eat and what fruit we go for.

Because of that, I decided to give you a list of the best fruits for weight loss, to help you get fit and healthy overall.

As keto became popular, we all learned a different point of view of everything with “natural” sugar.

The truth is, we’re taught that fruit is healthy and people can’t seem to understand that fruit is actually just another form of sugar and we should be careful with how much we consume.

Yes it’s all natural, but it’s still fructose, which means at the end of the day it’s still energy.

The only thing that makes fruit healthier than any other form of desert are the fibers which makes them recognizable and easily metabolized by our body, but you are still getting the fructose, which is pure energy.

And loading yourself with unnecessary energy that you can’t burn is not a good idea when it comes to keeping a well balanced diet, and it’s not a great choice when it comes to staying fit too.

But even though fruits are considered simple carbohydrates due to their high fructose levels, I suggest consuming some of them over others.

The reason about this is some of them have slower-digestible fiber, more vitamins and minerals, and energy that can help you fuel up for your workouts and speed up your weight loss efforts.

You can eat fruits and still be healthy, you’ll just need to pick them wise and make sure to be careful with how much you eat.

That’s why I’m listing the best fruits for weight loss, fruits that are not going to ruin your weight loss efforts.

And how did I decided these fruits were the best way to go?

2 important rank points:

  • Sugar in them and
  • Glycemic Index

How much sugar they have will determine how much fiber and calories the fruit has.

The Glycemic Index on the other hand is a relative ranking of carbohydrate in foods according to how they affect blood glucose levels. Carbohydrates with a low GI value are more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolised and cause a lower and slower rise in blood glucose and, therefore insulin levels.

So stay with me as we learn the best pieces of fruit out there!

#1: Bananas

Bananas are on top of my list since they’re my personal favorites when it comes to fruits

They have low GI – 52 and 12 grams of sugar per 100 grams, which makes them a perfect pre-workout fuel up.

Also bananas are probably the easiest food to eat, due to their self made package. I often carry banana inside my gym bag and eat one whenever I feel like snacking.

Bananas also have less water than other fruits, but they outrank almost all other types of fruit when it comes to potassium, and that’s why they’re so popular in the fitness world.

You see, potassium is critical for normal muscle function, assists in the process of converting blood sugar into glycogen, and rebuilds muscle glycogen stores, which helps you recover faster.

That’s why, they’re on top of my – best fruits for weight loss.

#2: Berries

Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, chokeberries… any berries out there, you name it!

They all have low Glycemic index and less than 5 grams of sugar per 100 grams.

They’re good to go for both pre and post workout, loaded with fibers, vitamis, minerals and a whole lot of flavor.

They’re good to go and are definitely the best fruit for weight loss!

I bet you’re thinking “Wait, what?! Avocados are veggies, aren’t they?”

They are fruits, but I see why so many people think they’re not – they’re not sweet at all.

Unlike most other fruits, avocados are made of mostly healthy fat, and almost zero carbohydrates.

As a matter of fact, one avocado contains just 1 gram of sugar and 14 grams of fiber.

This makes avocado THE BEST fruit for weight loss and health overall.

#4: Lemons

And limes!

With a freaking low Glycemic index of 24, and almost zero sugar – 1,7 grams, lemons and limes are suggested for weight loss everywhere.

They’re loaded with Vitamin C, riboflavin, Vitamin B, minerals like phosphorus and magnesium.

You can add them in salad dressings, tea, water and have it anytime of the day you want.

One apple a day, keeps the doctor away.

And this could not be any better said – but only one apple, not several apples a day :)

Apples have low Glycemic index 38, but contain 10 grams of sugar which makes them great for once a day before working out.

They’re high in fiber, Vitamin A and water content, which will going to give you that fullness in stomach especially in between meals.

Top them with peanut butter and you’ll make the perfect snack!

Grapefruit is a “super fruit” and it deserves to be highlighted as one that you can eat for both weight loss and optimal health.

It contains a bunch of vitamins and minerals and a whole lot of water.

Have them before your workout and you’ll get a healthy energy load up.

#10: Tomatoes

Okay, there I said it!

Tomatoes are fruits, they contain fructose and even though they’re not sweet, they’re considered as fruits.

They say, knowledge is knowing that tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting them in a fruit salad :)

And when it comes to fruits I just can’t skip them, since they’re terrific!

Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants that help to fight water retention in your body, resulting in fast weight loss.
