Hi Sheila,

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story!
I know it will inspire many people.
I'm so glad that you like my blog, and find it inspiring, it means a lot to me!

Just keep going and never give up!
You get better ans stronger as time goes by!

A pair of goggles is a necessity, I must agree. You cannot swim without them.
I have speedo goggles and I've always had speedo.
It's like "the Nike" for swimming equipment :)

I also use ear plugs because sometimes my ears heart when I'm underwater.

I wish you all the best, and if you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me.
I'll be more than happy to answer your questions!

This story feels so familiar. I'm going to be 40 in 6 months. As a child I was always picked on because I was too skinny. I'm not very coordinated or athletic never was, but I did swim on swim team for a while as a child. After having my son and just living my life I have put on excess weight that I'm just not happy about. About 7 or 8 years ago I found Bikram yoga and feel in love. It was a great workout and like they say it was a 90 minute moving meditation it did wonders for my stress level and my family noticed that I was happier than ever and would encourage me to go. I went on an off for about 5 years and even did a 30 day challenge! Then we moved and I was further away from it and with a gym less than 5 minutes from our house we opted for a family membership there. I tried one of their yoga classes, but it was crowded and just not the same. I did my free time with a trainer, but what he wanted me to do just didn't sync with me. My husband had a pretty good workout routine and went very early in the mornings up to the gym and worked out with a buddy. I eventually started going in the mornings with him and I would go and walk on the treadmill or do the stair machine. Well, that buddy moved and when that happened I approached my husband and asked if he thought I could take Ryan's spot. He said yes and so began our workout journey together doing free weights and machines. I recently started swimming up there and it gives me the exact same feeling of satisfaction and stress relief that I got from Bikram Yoga. Of course I am having to re-teach myself how to breath and swim, but you know what I just do what I can and remind myself that I'm out doing something and that every time I swim it will get better and better. At first I was really self conscious, but I came to realize that no one is really paying any attention to what I was doing. It's going to take me a while to get the crawl back, but in the meantime I practice just kicking and breathing and don't do any arms. I LOVE the breaststroke and can do that pretty good so I do that and then when I need a rest I do the backstroke. A good pair of goggles is essential, I also use swimming ear plugs because I have some ear issues, and then you need a good one piece suit I recommend speedo and swimoutlet.com I just found your blog yesterday and I have been reading as much of it as I can. I think it is precisely what I needed to hear and I think it will help me take my weight training to the next level. So with the swimming and perhaps a bit more effort and guidance at weight training I hope to keep working towards my fitness goals. I think your blog is great and I hope you keep posting! Thank you Monica!!!

I am trying to add new habits to my life and I am thinking about swimming. I do think that swimming can help you to lose weight. Losing weight and getting fit is mostly about the habits in your daily life. I am so happy that I decided years ago that I needed to do something about my health and ever since that day I have been able to lose 65 pounds! You can read my story on my blog http://musclehabit.com/. That was the best thing that I had ever done with my life and I do not regret any of it! I will start swimming next week and see how it goes!
