My Morning Routine
15 Healthy Habits To Start Your Day Right

#1 Always Wake Up Same Time Each Morning

I was never a morning person until I decided to force myself to wake up earlier each day.

This might not seem like much, but this is the exact reason why I became a ‘morning person’ in the first place.

I wake up each morning at 7:00 and I feel amazing.

This morning ritual of getting up at the same time each morning (yes, even on weekends) has helped me build up the habit of getting up earlier, making it easier to pre-empt the alarm call.

Try it out for at least a week and you’ll see the changes right away.

#2 Drink A Glass Of Hot Water

Every single morning I have a glass of hot water right after waking up.

I like to think of this as an early morning cleanse.

And it really is, because it provides amazing benefits:

  • Cleanses digestion;
  • Improves blood circulation;
  • Promotes healthy sweating and weight loss;
  • Forces toxins out of the body;
  • Stimulates bowel movements.

#3 Do Some Yoga

Yoga is an amazing way to start your day.

It wakes up every single muscle and gets them ready for the day ahead.

For those of you that don’t have much time, it doesn’t even have to be a full yoga routine.

I usually do a few poses like downward dog, cobra, cat pose, child pose.

#4 Avoid Screens Right After Waking Up

For starters, they tend to hijack my healthy morning routine.

I’ve found scrolling through Instagram this early as a bad habit mainly because I usually end up rushing through the rest of my routine.

That’s why I decided to keep my phone, laptop, and TV away, at least for the first hour after waking up.

Every minute is valuable in the morning, so make sure to devote it to quality habits.

#5 Get Some Fresh Air

Opening the window and welcoming fresh air into my room feels so good.

Just open the window and take a moment to bath your sleepy organs in fresh oxygen.

Inhale. Exhale.

Again, this may not seem like much for most of you, but I find this habit really calming and relaxing.

#6 Break A Sweat

Working out in the morning?! Say what now?!

Hold on, babe, before you say ‘nay-nay sister’ juts hear me out:

You don’t need to do anything crazy or time-consuming this early in the morning.

Just break a sweat with your favorite moves, to start the day energized and active.

I usually do jumping squats, lunges, burpees and finish all off with a 1-minute plank hold.

It takes about 5-6 minutes of my morning, yet it helps my blood flow and start my morning with great energy.

#7 Take A Cold Shower

I bet it freckles your skin just by the thought of it 🙂

Trust me, try it once and you’ll see why I’m doing it.

Get in the shower while you’re sweaty and just turn on the cold jet – that’s where the magic happens!

It doesn’t have to be ice-cold water, it can be a comfortable cold to slightly warm water for starters.

The thing with cold showers is that while warm water causes your blood vessels to dilate and relax, a cold shower wakes them up, which makes it perfect for the morning.

Try it out and let me know in the comments below if you liked it :)

#8 Have A Healthy Balanced Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

You should not skip it by any means, and you should always make sure that breakfast is your biggest and healthiest meal of the day.

This way, you’ll make sure to keep it healthy throughout the rest of the meals.

A little bit of protein, healthy fats and a whole lot of healthy complex carbohydrates – that’s my recipe for a healthy breakfast.

My all-time favorite breakfast is:

  • ½ cup Rolled oats
  • ½ cup greek yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • Handful of berries

I never wait to long to have my breakfast because I don’t want to keep it waiting, so usually, an hour after I wake up.

Head on to my meal plan for more healthy breakfast recipes, that will help you with your healthy morning routine.

#9 Enjoy Your Cup Of Caffeine

This is one of my most favorite healthy habit in my morning routine.

CAFFEINE!

I think coffee is the reason I love mornings.

And I really can’t argue with the facts that coffee is what get’s me going the most.

After my breakfast, I feel like I would just roll back to bed again, but coffee is that little voice in my head that says “You got this, girl!”

And I always have my coffee black and strong, no milk and certainly no sugar.

I get excited just by the smell of it – what can I say, caffeine is addictive and I cannot lie 🙂

And it’s true that drinking a lot of coffee can be harmful, but enjoying that one morning mug of caffeine will load you up with lots of healthy components including Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Manganese, Potassium, Magnesium and Niacin.

This magic in a mug, improves your energy levels, boosts the metabolic rate, improves physical performance, protects your heart and liver… These are only a few of the countless benefits you get from including coffee on a daily basis.

But, I have to admit it’s not only the coffee itself that counts, it’s who you share it with that’s important too.

Matt and I meet at the office at 9 each day and always have that coffee together – I just live for these moments!

If you’re by any chance not a coffee person (always wondered if these people really exist though haha) you can make yourself a cup of green or black tea, since they’re also high in caffeine.

#10 Make A Plan For The Day

How else am I supposed to have time for everything if I don’t make sure to organize it, right?

My morning routine won’t even happen without me planning to do it.

So, I sit down, usually with my coffee, I water my plants and make a plan for every single thing I have to finish today.

I write everything down in my planner, not only my daily activities, meetings and “to do” lists but planning my meals and workouts too.

It doesn’t always have to be written down on a piece of paper – there are hundreds of apps that will help you plan your day on your smart-phone.

However, writing it down helps a lot, so I always do it with my Fit Babe Fitness Planner.

#11 Stretch Your Feet

Our feet do such a big work for us – they carry us around and keep us standing for the whole day.

Yet, we never seem to give them credit for the amazing work they really do for us every day. Incorporating a stretch can be very healthy, and it will improve your morning routine.

Feet are not just blocks to clomp around on – we need to take good care of them so that they take good care of us.

That’s why it’s really important to take a few minutes in the morning and prepare them for the upcoming daily activities they’re going to go through.

Check out my favorite stretches in my video and try them out tomorrow morning.

#12 Have A Green Smoothie

My morning routine is always about squeezing in as many healthy habits as possible.

So, one of them was having more green smoothies.

I usually go for my favorite blend, I call it Hulk :)

I basically mix:

  • Avocado
  • Green Apple
  • Banana
  • Kale
  • Ice

If it’s too thick, add a little bit of water and it will be just fine.

You can also add a scoop of protein powder if that’s your thing of course.

#13 Hydrate Throughout The Entire Morning

I always have my favorite water bottle beside me and just make sure to refill it over and over again.

Sipping up and visiting the bathroom every 5 minutes is how my morning basically looks like.

Hydrating in the morning is so important because it will help you stay hydrated throughout the entire day.

I have exhausting training sessions and drinking water while working out has proven to be not the best idea, so I make sure to complete that hydration throughout the day.

#14 Pack Up A Healthy Snack

Snacking can be a completely healthy habit if you are doing it right.

This means you should snack as long as you keep it healthy and clean.

So, in order to reach out for a quality option, I make sure to always have a healthy snack on hand.

I pack up a bunch of carrot and cucumber sticks plus some nuts usually almonds or cashews.

#15 WBR – Walk Bike Or Run

To wherever you need to go in the morning, make sure to use your legs.

Walk bike or run.

This will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I usually take the bike to the office, and sometimes when I don’t manage to break my sweat I run.

It’s a 15 minute run to the office, so I go for it if I don’t have a bunch of stuff to carry with me :)
