Once you hit a certain point in your life, it becomes difficult to get out and exercise in public.
After all, you aren’t the same person you were in high school when you first started going to the gym.
You can’t throw back the same kind of weight, and that’s normal.

But, you don’t want to go to the gym in front of everyone and embarrass yourself. Luckily for you, there are a couple of very effective ways to get back in shape without ever leaving your home.

Elliptical Machine

It’s a common joke that machines bought from commercial TV ads or magazines end up next to your ironing board, holding old clothes on hangers. Even though this may be true for some machines like the treadmill, other devices help burn calories and are much more appealing to their target audience.

For example, the treadmill’s target audience was people, most likely over the age of thirty, looking to keep in shape without going to the gym or leaving their homes. Unfortunately, the problem with the design of the machine is that there is far too much impact on joints while using the treadmill for people over the age of thirty.

A machine such as the elliptical does a much better job of offering the in-home solution to staying in shape while avoiding impact on their joints. In addition, with the elliptical machine, you are much more likely to continue to use it because your body and joints won’t ache as a result.

Martial Arts

Martial arts is a fantastic way to exercise without ever leaving the comfort of your home. You can buy a home punching bag and reap all of the physical benefits of martial arts without ever having to leave your home. Plus, practicing martial arts helps improve several other aspects of your life.

For example, martial arts encourage you to eat healthier. However, whether you want to practice healthy eating or not, doing intense martial arts workouts will require more energy than your body is used to putting out. This means that eating cleaner would be necessary to complete any tasks for the rest of your day.

Yoga

There are three main types of Yoga, all of which can be completed by yourself in the comfort of your own home. The first type of Yoga is called restorative, and it consists of slow-paced deep tissue stretching. Restorative Yoga is mostly used for recovery purposes, more so than vigorous exercise.

The other two forms of Yoga, vinyasa and “hot,” have major benefits for cardio and recovery, and spirituality. Vinyasa is a fast-paced yoga type in which you move between difficult poses quickly, and hot Yoga is similar but in high temperatures. Yoga can be used to exercise, but it should be coupled with lifting and regular cardio.

That being said, Yoga is a great way to improve a healthy lifestyle and could have extremely positive health benefits.

Staying in shape can be tough once you hit a certain age. But, there is one thing that will never change, and that’s a mentality. If you want to get back in shape, then you will, but it might take more time than it used to.
