Do you struggle to get rid of armpit fat?
Underarm fat, bra bulge, armpit fat – you name it!
No matter what you call it we all know what it is (if you don’t know, lucky you).
When we say underarm fat we refer to those stubborn fatty cushions just under our arms, next to the boobies from one side and armpits on the other.
And today, I’m coming clean with all of you girls having the same issue because that awful bra bulge has been bothering me too since forever.
At last, my insecurity went away when I started working out, eating healthy and getting fit.
That’s why I gave my very best to do a research trying to reveal every single detail standing behind the bra bulge and figure out the dilemma: how to get rid of armpit fat and why the heck we have it?
Let’s get started right away!
Why Do We Have Underarm Fat?
First things first, we have to determine what underarm fat aka bra bulge actually is.
As I said, this thing we all refer to as a “bra bulge” or “armpit fat” or “underarm fat” is actually the extra fold of skin between your arm and your boob.
And they are usually caused because of stubborn fat deposits that accumulate around the upper bra area and usually come out whenever wearing cap sleeves, tank and halter tops.
It was really frustrating for me since I had my abs are ripped, arms and shoulders toned and my quads cut, but yet my armpit fat didn’t want to leave.
I had muscles everywhere and literally no fat, but I still had this weird fold I hated from the bottom of my heart.
But as weird as it might sound, in some cases bra bulge isn’t even caused by armpit fat or excess weight and poor muscle tone.
Sadly it can be caused by many other reasons starting from:
- Saggy or excess skin following dramatic weight loss
- Accessory (axillary) breast tissue, which can grow along the milk lines in the armpit region
- A poorly contoured bra, pushing the skin and breast tissue out and around the straps.
- Anatomy and genetics.
This explains the fact that so many fit girls and athletes out there have armpits too.
Can We Get Rid Of Armpit Fat?
First of all let’s get one thing straight – we can’t lose armpit fat just by doing arm exercises.
Spot reducing aka losing fat in one specific area of your body is not possible.
“Spot reducing isn’t possible. All of us store weight in certain places based on our genetics. So if you’re trying to lose a little from a certain spot, you need to focus on losing overall body fat, as well as adjusting your workout regimen to target the muscles in your pit region”
This means that there’s no such thing as “the best exercise to get rid of armpit fat”, you’re going to need to work on your body as a whole piece.
What You Can Do?
How To Get Rid Of Armpit Fat?
Now, if the reason you can’t get rid of armpit fat is having excess fat in your body, or saggy skin after weight loss, there are actually many things we can do.
We’ll dive right into them right now!
1. Start Exercising
If you’re not exercising already, then you should start right away.
However, not only cardio exercises, but also make sure to include heavy weights exercises too.
By me, the best way to both lose weight and build some lean and strong muscles is by doing fast and explosive high-intensity workouts.
This includes Tabata, Plyometrics and HIIT.
As I mentioned before, spot reducing isn’t possible, so you’ll have to work on your body as a whole piece.

2. Target The Muscles Around The Underarms
Many women think that chest workouts are only for men, but they are so wrong.
And underarm fat is the reason why they are wrong.
So, here are some of the exercises you can use to really target the muscles around the armpit fat.
- Push Ups
If pushups are too challenging for you and even impossible to do, just do them from your knees.
They really target both your triceps and chest muscles.
- Plank Walkouts
From a plank position go as far as you can reach in front of you.
Once you reach with both hands, hold for a few seconds before going back to the starting position.
- Hollow Body Chest Press
- Plank Ups
- Shoulders Circles
3. Start Eating Healthy
And last but not least, start eating healthy.
Without propper nutrition you can’t achieve anything.
As I always say, it’s 20% workout 80% nutrition.
So, start cleaning your diet from unhealthy foods and start adding healthy nutritious foods that are good for your body and health.

What If We Still Have Bra Bulge?
Girls, the sad truth is that even if you do everything right, you can still end up stuck with bra bulge. And you know what, that’s perfectly fine.
We can’t fix every “flaw” with dieting or exercising and we really shouldn’t let plastic surgery set our beauty standards.
Women are always on the hunt for that perfect flawless body, but there’s no perfection and any fitness athlete, curvy gal even your favorite fitspo can have armpit fat, and that’s totally fine.

Dasha is this fit and beautiful women I follow on IG, she is gorgeous, healthy and extremely fit and sexy, yet I noticed that on some photos she has a bit of a bra bulge too.
And I spotted Melissa Alcantara aka @fitgurlmel another IG fitspo that looks amazing with a bit of that underarm bulge too.
Oh and not to mention professional athletes such as Maria Sharapova that are “not supposed” to have underarm fat, but they just do.
Now let me ask you, would you say that what all of these girls have in common is bra bulge?
I’d say they are fit and healthy and confident and look amazing – that’s what they all have in common.
And I believe that’s the same thing anyone would say to you if you start complaining about your underarm fat.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say that you should feel better because Maria Sharapova has bra bulge too.
I’m just trying to prove a point that we all might as well say that we have this spikey weird thing in the middle of our faces, called nose.
We might look better without it, but we have it because that’s how anatomy works.
Stop feeling not good enough, because you are already freaking amazing!
There’s One Last Thing You Can Do!
And that is called self love.
Let’s talk about what’s the real issue?
For me, I thought bra bulge made my arms look fat.
Even though they’re toned AF and have muscles and cuts all over them, yet when I saw myself in the mirror I only saw fat and that ladies is a negative body image that has to stop.
I worked my ass off each day and started looking fit and toned but the armpit fat didn’t melt away.
Spoiler alert: I still have it!
But, here’s the thing: Exercising and eating healthy did changed my body, but also changed the way I felt about my body.
I started loving it and appreciating it as it is and everything started getting more and more clear – I don’t do this to look pretty in bikini, I do this for myself.
I do this to impress myself with the things my body is capable of doing, things my mind wouldn’t even dare to dream about, yet my body is achieving it.
Another thing that helped me get rid of armpit fat obsession was realizing that even the fittest girls and athletes have bra bulge, regardless of their size and body type.
And they look gorgeous and fit and I haven’t even noticed they have bra bulge since the folded skin looked like it was just a part of their body, absolutely not something disgusting and eye catching.
You are beautiful and you are gorgeous, and no one would notice you have bra bulge except you so you really shouldn’t let some imaginary standards control your self-love and self-respect. We’re not perfect and that’s what makes us beautiful.
Learn to love yourself as you are and focus on what’s really important and that is your health instead of obsessing with perfection.
It’s all about how you feel inside out in the end, not some beauty standards set by plastic surgery.
