’10 Weight Loss Friendly Foods That Changed My Life’ – Monica May

I’ve always hated dieting and diets in general.

I never wanted to be on one, and yet I ended up falling in love with fitness and healthy food.

That’s all because my meal plan has changed so much from when I first started my weight loss journey.

I realized that healthy food can be so freaking delicious and amazing.

And today, I’m sharing with you the top 10 weight loss friendly foods that actually made that happen to me.

These foods made my healthy meals more fun and made the whole eating healthy process not feeling like a diet at all.

Without further ado, let’s jump right into them!

10 Weight Loss Friendly Foods That Changed My Life

#1: Peanut Butter

Ever since I started eating healthy, peanut butter has been my dessert.

It’s my go-to snack when I’m feeling hungry between the meals, or if I have a sweet craving kicking in – the quick fix is peanut butter.

It just gives you a sense of fullness in just a few seconds, plus it’s loaded with proteins and it’s pretty nutritious overall.

Just a scoop of peanut butter on top of a few slices of green apple helps me satisfy my cravings for good.

I add it to my oatmeal for breakfast and as a post-workout or late-night snack combined with celery stalks.

In other words, peanut butter is the glue that holds my life together :)

#2: Rice Cakes

Let me correct myself – BROWN rice cakes :)

Made from puffed rice pressed together into a cake, rice cakes make my diet fun and easier.

How? Here’s how:

I’m all about these drooling, never-ending rice cake combos!

And even though they are low in essential vitamins and minerals and in nutrients, rice cakes are also low in calories and fat which makes them one of the top weight loss-friendly foods that changed my life.

They contain little protein and fiber, but honestly, that’s not the reason I love rice cakes.

The main reason is that they’re super convenient, crunchy and a vehicle for so many different combinations.

From desserty sweet combos to a variety of savory ideas.

If you follow my meal plan, you already know I use them a lot in my daily menus.

They just make my diet fun and easy.

#3: Tahini

Now, you may think ‘Whaaaaaaaaaat?!’

Hear me out.

Tahini is one of those weight loss friendly foods that made a huge impact in my diet overall.

Especially because I use it in so many dips and dressings.

From hummus to my vegan salad dressing that I honestly can’t imagine my salad without, tahini is everywhere in my meals.

I just love it.

Not to mention the fact that it’s extremely healthy and loaded with proteins and vitamins.

‘Tahini contains more protein than milk and most nuts.
It’s a rich source of B vitamins that boost energy and brain function, vitamin E, which is protective against heart disease and stroke, and important minerals, such as magnesium, iron and calcium.’

#4: Sprouted bread

Bread is on the bad rap when it comes to losing way and getting fit.

However, what I learned on my fitness journey is that not all pieces of bread are equal.

And the sprouted bread is the healthiest option and a delicious one too.

10 Weight Loss Friendly Foods - Sprouted bread

This unique bread contains no flour.
Instead, it’s made out of sprouted whole grains such as whole wheat, rye, buckwheat, which makes the bread rich in proteins, fibers, vitamins, minerals, and healthy carbs.

And the best thing is that sprouted bread tastes even better when toasted, which is amazing since it allows me to eat toast while I’m keeping it healthy.

YAY!

I usually add basil pesto and mozzarella and toast it until it’s crispy.

And that makes my diet not feel like a diet at all.

#5: Greek yogurt

The next one on my list of weight loss friendly foods that made me fall in love with healthy food is Greek yogurt.

Of course, it’s Greek yogurt, because that’s the ingredient I need to make my chia pudding, which is also one of those foods I can’t live without.

And that’s just the beginning of it.

I use Greek yogurt not only to make healthy ice cream, oatmeals and all kinds of snacks and healthy desserts, but also, to do my second favorite dressing of all time.

I call it Ranch dressing.

You just have to mix 3 tablespoons non-fat Greek yogurt with 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard and 1 teaspoon curry powder.

I add this to my salads or use it as a dip for veggie chips.

Also, Dijon mustard gives that mayo flavor to the dressing – I just love it.
It’s also one of my weight loss friendly foods I use in most of my meals.

#6: Protein bars

My life got so much better after realizing I can have a dessert while not ruining my weight loss efforts.

And that dessert is a protein bar.

I literally live for protein bars.

You just have to be extra careful when reaching out for a protein bar and always read the ingredients list, because not all protein bars are healthy.

Just make sure to always have a clean one, with no sugars added, no carbs and more proteins.

I also do protein bars at home, using whey protein.

#7: Cottage cheese

I LOVE COTTAGE CHEESE.
It’s my favorite food of all time!

This is one of those things that I can’t believe are healthy, and are helping me lose weight, while tasting like heaven.

Cottage cheese is an extremely nutritious food.

Only one cup (226 grams) of low-fat cottage cheese provides:

  • Protein: 28 grams
  • Carbs: 6.2 grams
  • Fat: 2.3 grams

Let’s be honest here, I would eat anything that has that amount of protein, even if it tasted bad.

And when it tastes as good as cottage cheese does, that’s just a bonus :)

#8: Avocado

Of course it’s avocado.

I couldn’t leave it out of the picture even if I tried.

Avocado is the butter in my diet. It makes my meals creamy and tasty, plus it can be used to do so many fun meals.

One avocado product I’m addicted to is guacamole.
I love adding it to chicken, healthy fajitas and salads.

Also, it tastes amazing on top of any sandwich or as a base of rice cakes.

#9: Sweet Potato

One of the foods I was addicted to when I first started eating healthy was french fries.

And not only french fries but potatoes in general.

However, I knew that I should kick the out of the picture if I wanted to lose weight, so I swapped them with a healthier version and that is the sweet potato.

Weight Loss Friendly Foods - sweet potatoes

Now, while both potatoes are relatively similar in nutrition value, there’s one huge difference and that is the glycemic index.

The glycemic index is a measure of how much certain foods increase blood sugar levels.

Foods high in simple carbs are broken down more quickly in the bloodstream and tend to have a higher GI, and out of the two, that’s the regular potato.

Regarding this, I find the sweet potato as a better option, and the tastier one.

I cook them with chicken, veggies, add them in salads, I’m making chips out of them…

The options are endless, and I love them all.

#10: Hummus

And last but definitely not least is hummus.

Another weight loss friendly food I can’t imagine living without.

I know I said it for almost every one of my favorite diet foods, but I really can’t believe how something as tasty as hummus can be so nutritious.

I add hummus in my salads, on top of rice cakes, in my healthy toasts, and everywhere else I can squeeze it in.

Made out of one of the richest plant-based proteins, chickpeas, hummus is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Loving it!
